Fastrack to RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore "Navathome" On-Line Theory Course

This course has been compiled for those with some theory and practical knowledge but no formal tuition.
Although it can be completed by a novice without any previous experience, it is not advised. The Day Skipper revision section of the course is self test and the time to complete it depends on your current level of knowledge. This on-line theory course is delivered by our partners “Navathome”.

Duration

The Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore section of the course takes approximately 40-50 hours with a long assessment of 3 parts (IRPCS:1.5 hours, Passage Making A:1.5 hours and Passage Making B:2 hours). These can be taken in one sitting or as 3 separate papers.

Tidal stream and the tidal stream atlas.
Working with tidal diamonds.
Using the computations of rates graph.
Position fixing
Dead reckoning and working up an estimated position taking into account tides and leeway.
Techniques for visual fixing.

Course to steer
How to work out and plot a compass course to steer taking into account tides, leeway, time zones and computation of rates.
Electronic aids to navigation
Includes the free Navathome radar simulator use of GPS, chart navigation systems, AIS and much more.
Electronic chart plotting
Basics and exercises on using a chart plotter.
Passage planning
Regulations.
Planning, routines and watch systems
Execution and monitoring a passage.
Visual aids to navigation
Buoyage and lights.
Leading lines and lights.
Distance off by rising and dipping.

Pilotage
Leading lines and transits.
Clearing bearings.
Pilot plans and restricted visibility.

Expected Learning Outcome

This course is the ideal method to advance to your next level – RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Completion certificate and/or your MCA/RYA exam. On successful completion of this Navathome theory course, you will receive an official RYA certificate signed by Navathome.

All packs, whether sent via Royal Mail or by courier, are sent with tracking information and should be signed for.
Navathome will not be held responsible for any duty or expenses incurred in the country of delivery.

Navathome will not be held responsible for pack sent to 'care of' addresses of any type including business, marinas, relatives etc.
Replacement packs for those lost after delivery will be at the sole expenses of the purchaser including postage and handling fees.

Availability

Course Expiry

There is an initial access period of 6 months which is plenty of time to complete any of the courses offered. Your access can be extended at any time for up to two years after your access runs out for an admin fee of £30.
Access lapses completely and your log in is deleted if your course has run out and you have not extended within two years of your course access expiry date.
Once you have completed the coursework and passed the assessment, your course is completed and you course access is terminated. You can request access to the revision course at this time.
