This course is for those who aspire to become RYA Cruising Instructors, the first step in teaching within the practical cruising scheme, before moving on to the Yachtmaster Instructor qualification. If you pass the course, you will be qualified to teach RYA Competent Crew & RYA Day Skipper.
Due to the limited time available in this instructor course, there is little opportunity to address any gaps in knowledge.
This course is a combination of assessing the candidate’s knowledge, providing a structured framework for instruction, coaching, observing, and delivering constructive feedback, while ensuring that the structure and standards required for RYA courses are understood. Candidates must therefore ensure they have sufficient foundational knowledge before attending.

We will meet and welcome you at 17.00 in the San Miguel Marina/ Amarilla Golf in Tenerife South and settle you onto your yacht. You are then invited to join us for drinks to meet the team, your instructors and fellow students or crew who start their full week courses with us. You will be made very welcome by the Canary Sail team and we can advise the best restaurants for you to sample!
During these 5 days, you will receive guidance on the teaching skills necessary to fulfill the standards set by the RYA. Throughout the course, you will explore course planning and teaching, providing feedback, and how to teach and learn from incidents that may occur during your instruction. Additionally, you will gain insight into the operations of the RYA and the expectations placed on instructors. For the initial five days, one instructor will teach you, replaced by an RYA moderator on the final day to evaluate your progress.
On the final day, your instructor will leave the boat and an RYA Moderator will join the course to evaluate your performance in a live teaching environment. upon successful completion, you will receive the RYA Cruising Instructor endorsement.
Leave the yacht at 09.00 latest please for your return home or to continue your holiday in Tenerife. Please see our stay page for accommodation.
