Typical Itinerary for Week

Day 1  (Saturday) – Travel / Arrival Day

We will meet and welcome you at 17.00 in the San Miguel Marina/ Amarilla Golf in Tenerife South and settle you onto your yacht. You are then invited to join us for drinks to meet the team, your instructors and fellow students or crew who start their full week courses with us. You will be made very welcome by the Canary Sail team and we can advise the best restaurants for you to sample!

Day 2 (Sunday)

You will participate in the safety briefing on board, you will be asked to prepare the boat for departure and almost always be taken out for a sailing/MOB session in the wind acceleration zone (WAZ) just off the harbour wall. You will also be given an opportunity to get used to handling your yacht in confined spaces.

Day 3 (Monday)

Boat handling in and around the marina before departure to our local sailing area to practice drills and skills.

Day 4, 5, 6 & 7 (Tuesday – Friday)

The itinerary for these days will largely be influenced by the skill levels of the participants and their specific individual needs for mastering advanced Yachtmaster sailing and navigation techniques. This preparation is essential for those who will be undertaking the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Prep and Exam in the subsequent week.

Day 8 (Saturday) – Departure / Return Travel Day/Day off for those clients staying on

Leave the yacht at 09.00 latest please for your return home or to continue your sail training with us. For those extending their holiday time in Tenerife Please see our stay page for accommodation.

The RYA Boat Handling course is designed to improve your yacht handling and berthing skills in confined spaces, combined with general sailing skills practice. It prepares participants for confident manoeuvring in marinas and during coastal passages.

The course is suitable for Day Skippers, Coastal Skippers, and RYA Exam Prep candidates who wish to enhance their boat handling skills and gain more confidence in challenging conditions.

Participants will learn about tide, wind, windage, steerage, propwash, propwalk, pivot points, and slide. The course includes practical exercises in sail trim, yacht handling in confined spaces, and general sailing skills.

The course runs for 6 full days. Accommodation options include saloon berth, panel-divided twin cabin berth, single occupancy cabin, or a double cabin for a couple sharing.

The course provides hands-on experience in advanced boat handling techniques, preparing you for real-world sailing scenarios and enhancing your confidence and competence as a skipper.
