La Gomera is the second smallest Canary Island, with it’s spectacular mountains offering stunning hiking trails. The Garajonay National Park can be found in the North of the Island, where dense forests of ferns and moss covered trees grow in the mists.
The Island’s Capital is known to be the departure point of Christopher Columbus’ journey to the New World. The island continues to pride itself as being the “Isla Columbiana“ and islanders tell of how America was blessed with water from La Gomera.
In the name of the Spanish Crown, Cristobal Colon (Christopher Columbus) departed on his journey of discovery.
In the summer of 1492, his fleet stopped off the coast of La Gomera to restock with provisions and water one last time prior to crossing the Atlantic. It is still told today that many locals were hired as sailors for his fleet and bravely stood at his side during the discovery of America.
